Ariel Ameijenda
Ariel Ameijenda was born in Montevideo in the home of one of the most prominent luthiers in Uruguay. His father Manuel, learned the difficult art of lutery from the Uruguayan luthier Juan Carlos Santurión, who had received a grant from the Uruguayan government in 1950 for Ignacio Fleta's workshop in Barcelona. After this period and working independent around 1957, Manuel shares his studio with the Madrid luthier José López Cubillo, first officer of the José Ramírez II studio, staying in Uruguay for 2 years.
Ariel has learned too early with his father Manuel the ancient technique of the Flamenco Guitars, as much in the construction of beautiful classical guitars as in his passion for ancient instruments.
He was 14 and under the guidance of his father, he started to build his first instruments. At 19, he entered in the University of the Republic, where he studied for 4 years the Bachelor of Musicology, in order, to improve his knowledge in different areas such as acoustics, music history, harmony, counterpoint, etc. All of them with priceless utility and complementary to his craft as a luthier . A strong musical vocation also emerged during this period.
In 1997, he set up his own studio in the old mansion at 1693 San Salvador Street, where he began his career building his own instruments, remaining in that location until 2014.
To meet the growing list of purchase orders for his guitars, in 2014 Ariel moved to the paradisiacal Cerro de los Burros, close to the city, in Piriápolis, on the East Coast of Uruguay, to be able to dedicate himself entirely to manufacturing the best guitars, in a workshop personally designed by him for this purpose.
